Kauri Hub Newsletter # 1
Monday 1  Feb 2016

Nau mai, haere mai! A big welcome to all the whanau/families of Kauri Hub

Just a little information about how the senior school is structured this year. Our big senior team name is Nga Rakau Nui, consisting of 3 learning hubs, Kauri, Rimu and Totara. Kauri Hub 2016 has a two 2-class modern learning environment setup whilst the other two hubs are a 3 class modern learning environment. To further identify ourselves we have decided to use the names Kauri 89 MLE and Kauri 12/11 MLE. Kris Miller and Stephen Ford are the teachers in the Kauri 8/9 MLE and Maliana Lowe and Phillip Kenny are the teachers in the Kauri 12/11 MLE.
ABOUT US:
Tēnā koutou katoa
Ko Maliana Lowe tōku ingoa. I am married to Derek Lowe who is also a Learning assistant at Parkvale school this year. We have seven adult children between us and 16 mokopuna. We live at Te Awanga and enjoy fishing, diving, cycling, rugby, reading and re-decorating. It is really exciting to be leading a 2-2 class Modern Learning Environment this year and I’m equally excited about working alongside Phillip Kenny. I look forward to a warm and productive working relationship with you all.

Kia Ora Koutou
Just a little bit about myself.
I am married to my lovely wife, Megan and we have 4  children. Alex is 21 years old and is studying to be an accountant in Hamilton, Emily (16),  Amber (12) and Olivia (7) who attends Parkvale School.
I have now been working at Parkvale for a year now having arrived from the blistery, cold, wet and windy Manawatu where I had been teaching for the past 14 years.  I enjoy teaching maths and literacy, using digital technology in the classroom and getting out of the classroom as often as possible for P.E/sports.
I am looking forward to working collaboratively with Maliana and meeting you all.

Other Items of Importance
Brain Food: Just a reminder that Brain food can be a small piece of fruit, a small portion of vegetables, nuts, unsalted popcorn and crackers. These food items give the brain that energy boost to keep them going till morning interval.
Hats: Your child is required to wear our Parkvale Hat in Term 1. Please purchase a hat from the school office if your child does not have one. If your child does not have a hat, he or she is required to sit in a designated area in the shade for interval and lunchtimes.
Swimming: Swimming is part of our school programme. Aquatic Education is compulsory for all students.  If your child is unable to swim for any reason, please ensure you send them to school with a note for the classroom teacher. Swimming is every day, weather permitting.
